Former U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a bold and controversial vision for the future of Gaza, reimagining the war-torn enclave as a lavish holiday destination. In a 30-second AI-generated video posted on his social media accounts, Trump showcases what he calls “the Riviera of the Middle East.”
His proposal, which emerged just weeks after his return to the White House, suggests that the U.S. should take control of Gaza to “rebuild” it. However, this plan hinges on the forced displacement of Gaza’s two million residents to Egypt and Jordan—an idea both nations have firmly rejected, citing clear violations of international law and human rights.

Though Trump has not outlined how he intends to implement such a drastic transformation, he has the backing of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The video even depicts the two leaders lounging on a beach, sipping cocktails in swimwear. Also featured is billionaire Elon Musk, now an advisor to Trump, indulging in local cuisine while tossing banknotes into the air, as dancers perform traditional routines in the background.
Hamas has condemned the plan, stating in a press release: “Once again, President Trump is pushing solutions that completely disregard the rights and culture of the Palestinian people. We are not seeking better conditions in a prison—we seek freedom from occupation.”
A Glimpse into Trump’s “New Gaza”
The AI-generated footage presents a stark contrast to the present-day reality of Gaza. Gleaming skyscrapers, bustling tourist markets, high-end hotels, and beachfront resorts replace the devastated landscape. A newly constructed Trump-branded hotel stands tall, and in the heart of the city, a massive golden statue of Trump himself dominates the skyline.
In reality, Gaza remains in ruins, with entire neighborhoods leveled by Israeli airstrikes over fifteen months of conflict. More than 47,000 Palestinians have been killed, 60% of homes have been obliterated, and nearly all infrastructure has been severely damaged. Yet, Trump envisions wiping the slate clean and leveraging his real estate background to turn the enclave into a global travel hotspot.
Shortly after Trump’s February announcement, Netanyahu reaffirmed their shared vision, stating they would “build a bright future together” and strengthen U.S.-Israeli relations to “unprecedented levels.” Israel’s far-right factions, which have long advocated for full control over Gaza, welcomed Trump’s stance with enthusiasm.
